SJI Board Awards FY 2026 2nd Quarter Grants

The SJI Board met on April 20, 2026, and awarded 18 new grant applications totaling $916,661 for the 2nd quarter of FY 2026. 

The Board awarded two (2) Strategic Initiative Grants (SIG) to: National Center for State Courts (NCSC) to conduct a national landscape assessment to identify gaps, assess challenges, and export how technology – particularly electronic service – can support a more efficient, safe, and constitutionally sound process for all participants; and 2) The Layne Project to pilot BeAligned, a guided self-reflection platform that helps parents reduce conflict before and after court involvement, in several family court systems to test its impact on settlement rates, re-filings, and family stability.

Six (6) Technical Assistance Grant applications were awarded to: 1) the Administrative Office of the Pennsylvania Courts for a civil data training and engagement project; 2) the 14th Judicial District of Louisiana for a legal navigator pilot program; 3) the Maryland Judiciary for an Artificial Intelligence Evidence Clinic pilot program; 4) the Salt Lake City, Utah, Justice Court for a strategic planning and caseflow management project; 5) the National Association for Presiding Judges and Court Executive Officers for educational programming; and 6) the Supreme Court of Louisiana for an organizational assessment of the Office of Judicial Administration.

Four (4) Curriculum Adaptation and Training Grants were awarded to: 1) the Council of Chief Judges of the State Courts of Appeal for educational sessions and programming; 2) the Riverside County, California, Superior Court for leadership team coaching workshops; 3) the National Association of Women Judges for an education seminar for judges new to the bench; and 4) the American Judges Association for judicial educational programming to improve fair and equal access to civil and criminal justice. 

The next deadline for grant applications is May 1st, 2026 (3rd Quarter of FY 2026).
